olfactory object, 2020
A fragrant calabash is an object that – in my concept – swirls and vibrates. The fragrance fills thespace. The object physically occupies a part of it. Everything around is a transitional state that vibrates with the remains of its epicentre.
The basic ingredient for the fragrance is an extract prepared from leaves. The leaves were collected inthe parks in my hometown of Jarosław, among others. They were collected in autumn. For over a year, they have been releasing their juices and essential oils to form the basis for this installation. The olfactory dimension is based on the search for conceptual references and connections. It is worthmentioning some of the ingredients used for this fragrance like hop cone extracts, different species of moss extracts (Siberian, Spanish). extracts of bog pine, or plants that in many cultures existed as mythological and magical, serving as a link between the natural world and mankind, such as wormwood, angelica, cocoa extract, and finally mushroom extract. Plants that have survived many cultures and stayed indifferent to their magical powers. The fragrance has been placed in a calabash. Despite being a plant, its shape is animalistic. The calabash-snake is therefore a bottle with fragrance that – in my concept – swirls and vibrates. The fragrance fills the space. The object physically occupies a part of it.
